Contributor Agreement

This Contributor Agreement ("Agreement") governs your participation as a contributor to the Polyglot Translate Cloud platform ("the Platform"), operated by Elevio Solutions ("we," "us," "our"). By registering as a contributor, you agree to be bound by this Agreement in addition to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

In the event of a conflict between this Agreement and the Terms of Service, this Agreement prevails for contributor-specific matters.

1. Definitions

• "Contributor" — any individual who registers for a contributor account and submits translations, reviews, edits, or other linguistic contributions to the Platform.
• "Contribution" — any translation, review, edit, correction, suggestion, glossary entry, or other linguistic work submitted by a Contributor through the Platform.
• "Trust Tier" — the quality classification system used by the Platform: candidate, verified, and gold.
• "Skill Test" — the automated assessment administered by the Platform to evaluate a Contributor's translation quality for specific language pairs.

2. Eligibility and Registration

• You must be at least 18 years old to register as a Contributor.
• You must provide accurate and complete registration information, including your native languages, qualifications, and experience.
• Misrepresenting your qualifications, certifications, or linguistic abilities is grounds for immediate account termination.
• You must successfully complete the Skill Test for at least one language pair before receiving translation tasks.
• One individual may hold only one contributor account. Duplicate accounts will be terminated.

3. Data We Collect from Contributors

In addition to the data described in our Privacy Policy, we collect the following information from Contributors:

• Profile information: display name, bio, country, timezone, native languages
• Professional qualifications: whether you are a professional translator, linguist, or hold certifications; years of experience; specializations
• Portfolio and professional links: portfolio URL, LinkedIn URL (optional, provided voluntarily)
• Skill test results: scores, language pairs, assessment timestamps
• Contribution history: all translations, reviews, edits, and suggestions you submit
• Quality metrics: acceptance rate, rejection rate, quality scores, reputation points, level, badges
• Activity data: task completion times, last active timestamp, contribution streaks

Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)): This data is necessary for the performance of this Agreement — to assign tasks, evaluate quality, calculate reputation, and maintain the integrity of the contributor program.

Retention: Contributor profile data is retained for the duration of your contributor account plus 12 months after account closure. Contributions (translations, edits) remain in the Translation Memory indefinitely, as they form part of the community TM. You may request erasure of your profile data by contacting [email protected].

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 License Grant

By submitting a Contribution, you grant Elevio Solutions a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, store, modify, distribute, display, sublicense, and create derivative works from your Contribution as part of the Translation Memory, the Platform, and related services.

This license is necessary because Contributions become part of the community Translation Memory, which serves translations to all Platform users. Without this license, the core functionality of the Platform would not work.

4.2 Attribution

Contributions are associated with your contributor profile for quality tracking and reputation purposes. However, translations served to end users from the Translation Memory are not individually attributed to contributors — they appear as Platform translations. Your contributor profile and statistics are visible within the contributor dashboard.

4.3 No Ownership Transfer

This license does not transfer ownership of your original creative expression. You retain the right to use your own translations for other purposes. However, you may not withdraw Contributions from the Platform's Translation Memory after submission, as they may already be serving other users.

4.4 Third-Party Content

You represent and warrant that your Contributions are original work or that you have the necessary rights to submit them. You must NOT submit translations that are copied from copyrighted sources without authorization (e.g., copyrighted books, proprietary translation memories from other platforms, or material from employers without permission).

5. Quality Standards and Expectations

• All Contributions must be accurate, natural-sounding translations that faithfully convey the meaning of the source text.
• Contributions must be free from intentional errors, bias, offensive content, or deliberate sabotage.
• You must follow any glossary guidelines and style guides provided by the Platform for specific language pairs or domains.
• Machine-translated output submitted as human translation is strictly prohibited. You may use machine translation as a reference, but must substantially edit and verify the output.
• Contributions are evaluated using a 5-signal quality system (semantic similarity, fluency, length ratio, terminology accuracy, community consensus) and periodic human review.

6. Trust Tiers and Reputation

Contributors progress through the following trust tiers:

• Candidate: New contributors start here. Contributions are subject to review before being promoted in the Translation Memory.
• Verified: Contributors who consistently produce high-quality translations. Contributions receive higher initial quality scores.
• Gold: Expert-level contributors with sustained excellence. Contributions receive the highest trust weighting.

Trust tier promotion is based on quality scores, acceptance rates, volume of accepted contributions, and absence of violations. Demotion may occur if quality drops below threshold or violations are detected.

7. Prohibited Conduct

Contributors must NOT:

• Submit intentionally incorrect, misleading, or harmful translations
• Manipulate quality scores, reputation points, or trust tiers through deceptive means
• Use multiple accounts to inflate contribution counts or votes
• Submit machine-generated translations without substantial human editing and verification
• Copy translations from copyrighted sources, other translation platforms, or proprietary TMs
• Collude with other contributors to accept each other's poor-quality work
• Submit content containing hate speech, discrimination, illegal content, or deliberate profanity in translations where not present in the source
• Attempt to extract, scrape, or bulk-download translations from the Platform
• Share access credentials or allow others to use your contributor account

8. Suspension and Termination

8.1 Suspension

We may temporarily suspend your contributor account for investigation if we detect quality issues, violations of this Agreement, or suspicious activity. During suspension, you will be unable to submit new Contributions, but existing Contributions remain in the Translation Memory.

8.2 Termination by Us

We may permanently terminate your contributor account for:

• Repeated violations of this Agreement
• Submission of intentionally harmful or misleading translations
• Manipulation of the reputation or trust tier system
• Misrepresentation of qualifications
• Any conduct that threatens the integrity of the Platform or the quality of the Translation Memory

Upon termination, your contributor profile will be deactivated. Contributions already accepted into the Translation Memory may remain, as they serve the community. We will notify you of termination and the reason at the email address on your account.

8.3 Termination by You

You may cease contributing at any time by contacting us. You may request deletion of your contributor profile data. Contributions already in the Translation Memory are not withdrawable, as per Section 4.3.

9. Compensation

The contributor program is currently voluntary and uncompensated. Contributors participate to improve translation quality, build their reputation, and contribute to the open translation community.

If compensation or incentive programs are introduced in the future, they will be governed by separate terms that will be presented to you before opt-in. No retroactive compensation will be provided for Contributions made under this Agreement.

You acknowledge that your participation does not create an employment, contractor, or agency relationship with Elevio Solutions. Contributors are independent volunteers.

10. Confidentiality

In the course of contributing, you may encounter source text submitted by other users for translation. You must:

• Treat all source text as confidential and use it solely for the purpose of creating translations on the Platform
• NOT copy, retain, share, or use source text for any purpose outside the Platform
• NOT attempt to identify users or businesses based on the content of translation tasks
• Report any source text containing sensitive personal data (e.g., passwords, credit card numbers, medical records) to [email protected] rather than translating it

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Elevio Solutions from and against any claims, damages, or expenses arising from: your Contributions (including claims of copyright infringement), your violation of this Agreement, or your misrepresentation of qualifications or certifications.

12. Limitation of Liability

The limitations of liability set out in our Terms of Service Section 9 apply to this Agreement. Since the contributor program is currently voluntary and uncompensated, our maximum liability to any Contributor arising from this Agreement is $10 USD.

13. Dispute Resolution

Quality disputes (e.g., disagreement with a rejection or quality score) should be raised through the contributor dashboard or by emailing [email protected]. We will review disputes in good faith within 14 business days.

For legal disputes, the governing law and jurisdiction provisions of our Terms of Service Section 15 apply.

14. Changes to This Agreement

We may modify this Agreement from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email to your registered address at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued participation as a Contributor after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you disagree, you may cease contributing before the changes take effect.

15. Entire Agreement

This Agreement, together with the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and any plan-specific terms, constitutes the entire agreement between you and Elevio Solutions regarding your participation as a Contributor.
